From November 2005 to December 2009, I worked for AetherQuest Solutions, Inc, an event support and information management company in the DC area. My primary role there was building IPReg, an event management web application used by event planners to register attendees, manage speakers and the session schedule, manage exhibitors and sponsors, and report on finances, among many other things.
For the second half of my time at AQS, I served as the Scrum Master for the development team, and eventually managed a team of developers and testers as the Software Development Manager. Even when I was managing things, I was still writing code for the application: first in our own MVC framework and later in Zend Framework, as well as Javascript using jQuery on the front-end. Because all the code I wrote was for the product, I did not save any of the code when I left the company, and thus cannot show any code samples from it.
As Software Development Manager
- Managed a team of 8 developers and testers across two offices in building a web application in Zend Framework for event managers: attendee registration, session and speaker management, exhibitor and sponsor management and registration, etc.
- Coordinated and executed production releases of new features and bug fixes.
- Managed incoming bug reports and feature requests, wrote detailed implementation instructions, and assigned to team members.
- Supported other developers with implementation advice and assistance in fixing bugs.
- Standardized development process to improve quality and reduce bugs by ensuring that features were fully tested and documented by the developer.
- Demonstrated and documented new features for technical writer and others for user documentation and training.
- Served as Scrum Master for development team for two years.
As Web Developer
- Designed system features based on rough descriptions of requirements.
- Designed and implemented bulk mailing feature.
- Became the de facto go-to guy for other developers trying to track down bugs.
- Coded Exhibitor Management system module from the ground up based on loose requirements.
- Build interactive agenda builder for event attendees to choose their session schedule.
